11th Air Force Patch

11th Air Force Patch

Pay tribute to the 11th Air Force with a fully embroidered WWII-style patch that’s ready to sew on flight jackets, field bags, or framed commemorations. Approximately 3 inches, fully embroidered, sew-on application.

The 11th Air Force (initially the Alaskan Air Force) operated in what was arguably the most inhospitable environment of the war: the Aleutian Islands. Tasked with defending Alaska and the North American mainland after the Japanese bombing of Dutch Harbor and the occupation of Attu and Kiska in 1942, the 11th fought a grueling "forgotten war" where the primary enemy was often the weather. Pilots frequently contended with "williwaws" (violent, unpredictable winds) and near-constant fog that made navigation treacherous. During the "Kiska Blitz," they relentlessly bombed Japanese positions, eventually supporting the amphibious assaults to retake the islands in 1943. Notably, the 11th Air Force launched the first land-based bombing missions against the Japanese home islands from Attu, and by the war's end, it had transitioned into a long-range reconnaissance and strike force harassing Japanese bases in the Kurile Islands.
