15th Air Force Patch

15th Air Force Patch

Round out your collection with the 15th Air Force Patch, a fully embroidered sew-on design that captures the look and spirit of WWII insignia. Approximately 3 inches diameter, fully embroidered, sew-on application.

The 15th Air Force was established in November 1943 specifically to conduct strategic bombardment against Nazi Germany from bases in Southern Italy. Operating primarily out of the Foggia airfield complex, the 15th served as the southern half of the Allied strategic pincer, complementing the 8th Air Force's missions from England. Its heavy bombers—primarily B-17 Flying Fortresses and B-24 Liberators—specialized in long-range strikes against vital Axis oil refineries, aircraft factories, and transportation hubs across Southern Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the Balkans. Most famously, the 15th bore the brunt of the costly and dangerous missions against the Ploiești oil fields in Romania, which were essential to the German war machine. By the end of the war, the 15th had effectively crippled the fuel supplies of the Luftwaffe and the Wehrmacht, proving that no corner of the Third Reich was beyond the reach of Allied airpower.
