The route connected Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City, marking the beginning of regularly scheduled air mail service in the United States. President Woodrow Wilson and other officials attended the historic launch at the Potomac Park polo grounds in Washington, where the President personally handed over a letter to be delivered to the Mayor of New York City.
